The New iPad VS iPad 2 – Graphics / Game Load Test – Modern Combat 3

It’s no question that the new iPad has a better processor for graphics than the iPad 2. I wanted to put this theory to the test with a real graphic intense first person shoot, Modern Combat 3 from Gameloft.

Modern Combat 3 is Retina ready and the graphics look amazing. I’d recommend downloading it ASAP as it’s only 99 cents right now!

But back to business..

It looks like the new iPad wins a bit as far as load time goes. And the game play feels much snappier. It’s a clear winner in this battle, but not by much. Obviously the graphics on the new iPad are much more crisp. And with the Quad-Core graphics the game looks amazing.

I took a couple screenshots from the game and the clarity reigns king for the new iPad.

But you really have to see it to believe it. This video comparison does the new iPad’s Retina Display absolutely no justice. This thing is beautiful!

Which one do you think is better?

Is pretty close. The screen shot you can see the outlines better in the shadows on the new iPad. Plus a few more clearer details.

The only thing I would have done different on these tests would be to turn off wifi as the signal strength might tax the system more versus the other even side by side. Next thing they both are at different states of charge. Don’t know if this is anything but anything not equal makes it hard to do a side by side test. Last I would have started from a fresh reboot to clear memory. Even processes like swiping the screen. The prior geek bench test. Anything could drain some RAM from the system. I know to get better performance out of my iPad 1 I have to sometimes reboot and run in airplane mode to squeeze the most out of the iPad.

I know this is just a quick test but still so many open variables. Still the iPad 2/3 are very close. I would be happy to any iPad. Even the iPad 1 runs this game amazingly with no glitches or lag. It’s pretty much down to the better screen in my opinion. If you are going to buy a 32g at the same price why wouldn’t you buy the “better” display.

Anyway. That’s my take. Good videos. Thanks.
