[Rumor] Apple To Solve New iPads Heat Issue By Removing An LED Backlight

Hey dude, isn't that burning your finger?

Oh no, here’s another rumor from DigiTimes. Today they’re out with reports that Apple intends on solving the overly dismissed “heat issue,” that “plagued” the new iPad since launch. Personally I’ve never experienced any heat issues…

Either way it’s fun to see what their rumor-o-matic has spit out today. While they aren’t a real credible source for rumors, this one definitely seems to make sense in a technical manner. But as far as I knew, the “overheating” issue was never really an issue.

Apple is making revisions to the New iPad’s backlight module by using a one LED structure as used in Apple’s second-generation iPad instead of a two LED one that the current version has, according to industry sources.

The extra LED is reportedly adding to overheating and that using one LED will help solve overheating issues since more backlights along with more power to heat those backlights is causing overheating.

That would leave just one LED backlight to keep the the display lit. But claims say this wouldn’t affect the luminosity or  clarity of the new iPad.

It’s a possibility that removing an LED backlight could even improve battery performance, but that’s just an opinion of mine.

There’s also been rumors that Apple is looking to redesign the current generation iPad and implement Sharp’s new IGZO displays to make the device thinner and lighter than its predecessor. I highly doubt Apple will opt for a redesign less than half way through a models lifespan though.

Have you had heat issues with your new iPad?
