Philippe Starck Confirms Apple’s ‘Revolutionary’ Project is a Yacht

Last week during a radio interview, Philippe Starck revealed he was working with Apple on a “revolutionary” project that would be out in about 8 months time. Many jumped to speculation as to what this new “project” could be. Everything from the new Apple TV to the new iPhone 5, but no one expected it to just be Steve’s Yacht…

Apple came out with an official statement to AllThingsD claiming they had not been working with Starck on any project. It was later revealed through “sources” that it was indeed a Yacht.

Well Starck has come out and confirmed the Yacht story

“It’s not a project with Apple. It’s a private project that began with Steve Jobs and that has been taken over by his wife,” a spokeswoman for Starck told The Wall Street Journal. Starck also revealed during the interview that he meets with Steve’s wife now whenever he’s in California.

Steve actually talked about the yacht to his biographer, Walter Isaacson. Steve said that after his “best vacation”,  a cruise from Italy to Turkey, he decided to begin working on the yacht.

According to AppleInsider,

Isaacson noted that the boat was “sleek and minimalist,” based on the models and drawings of the project Jobs showed. The plans included a special glass designed by the “chief engineer of the Apple stores” to provide structural support. Custom yacht builder Feadship had been constructing the boat.

“I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat,” Jobs said. “But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

Well unfortionately Steve didn’t make it long enough to see the completed yacht. But what a good man Starck is for sticking it out and helping finish the boat; Even if it isn’t a new HDTV or the new iPhone…
