iOS 6 Is Coming Today! Get Ready!

If you haven’t heard yet, Apple’s latest mobile OS is being released today. The iOS 6 update brings a ton of new features to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch…

The release hit devices around 10 a.m. PST, so make sure you check frequently within Settings > General > Software Update. The update will probably weigh in at around 1 GB, so make sure your Wi-Fi is on and ready.

The new update brings many different features, I put together a list of the features I think are the best.

Here’s the list:

  • Maps
    • New Look
    • 3D maps
    • Turn-By-Turn
    • Better Traffic
  • Passbook
    • How Passes Look
    • Using Passes
  • Photo Streams

    • Sharing
  • Siri
    • Sports
    • Food
    • Movies
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
  • Safari
    • iCloud Tabs
    • Full Screen
    • Offline Reading List
  • Phone app

    • New Answer Options
    • Auto-text
    • Reminders
  • Notification Center

  • Camera app

    • New Look
    • Panorama Mode
  • Mail app

    • VIP Inbox
    • Add photos/Videos
  • Guided Access

    • Apps Learning
    • Accessibility
  • App Store
    • New layout
    • New Search
    • Like On FB
  • FaceTime
    • Over Cellular

It’s also important to know that not all of these features are compatible with every device. Some of them are limited to newer devices, but luckily Apple has a compatibility list of all of the big features.

From Apple’s iOS 6 page:

  1. Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation are available only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 or later, and iPod touch (5th generation). Cellular data charges may apply.
  2. Siri is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd generation), and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Cellular data charges may apply.
  3. FaceTime video calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Availability over a cellular network depends on carrier policies; data charges may apply.
  4. Offline Reading List is available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
  5. Panorama is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch (5th generation).
