iOS 6 Beta 3 Brings iCloud.com Email Addresses

Today iOS 6 beta 3 was released and developers have been digging through it to find any new features. One discovery has been the addition of @iCloud.com email addresses instead of @me.com…

Prior to this new release, when signing up for iCloud mail you’d be prompted to create an “@me.com” account. According to the iOS 6 beta 3 release notes, Apple has changed this to “@iCloud.com.”

icloud.com email addresses are now available for iCloud mail users. Users signing up for new Apple IDs, or enabling Mail on their iCloud account for the first time, will automatically receive an @icloud.com email address instead of a me.com email address. iCloud users with @me.com addresses that have been used with iOS 6 beta 3 will receive an @icloud.com email address that matches their @me.com address.

I personally favor @me.com over the new one. The @me.com accounts were mainly attributed to Apple’s MobileMe service which has been discontinued, Apple is all about branding so it’s no surprise that they would eventually roll out the @icloud.com email addresses.
