How To Upgrade RAM In The 2012 27-Inch iMac

After unboxing and setting up my new iMac, I already knew I would need a RAM upgrade. I do a heavy amount of video/photo editing and music production so I knew that 8GB of RAM wasn’t going to cut it. I decided to upgrade my new iMac’s RAM to 32GB and decided I’d film the process.

Installing RAM in the 2012 27-inch iMac is very easy. There’s a small hatch on the back of the iMac that can be opened by pushing a button located beneath the power connector cable. Check out my RAM installation video above for a detailed look at the process. Unfortunately, the 21.5-inch iMac’s RAM isn’t user serviceable.

The late 2012 27-inch iMac can take up to 32GB of RAM. I highly recommend purchasing two 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM kits here. Corsair makes high quality RAM and I’ve been using this brand in my MacBooks for a while now. The two kits may set you back $200, but it’s worth the performance boost you’ll get if you need it.
