Firefox For iPad? Mozilla’s ‘Junior’ Aims To Revolutionize iPad Browsing

I’m a big fan of Safari for iOS, but sometimes it leaves me desiring more. Sure there are other browsers for iOS available in the App Store but none of them measure up to surfing the web on my MacBook. Mozilla, creators of Firefox, hopes to change that opinion with their upcoming iOS browser called Junior…

According to Mozilla’s website, Junior is described as:

An iPad browser that makes browsing more fun, more ergonomic and re-thinks browser user experience from the ground up.

Sounds pretty exciting right? Mozilla usually delivers the goods when it comes to Internet browsers, and I don’t expect any less of them this time around. I personally favor Firefox over Safari on my MacBook.

Aside from all the crashing and frequent bugs, I think Firefox has a pretty decent feature-set when it comes to my browsing needs. I just hope Mozilla will follow through with this in Junior (minus the bugs).

Slashgear discovered this new browser project and even has a video available with more details on this new iPad browser. Junior is meant to be simple and functional.

Junior pares back the navigation UI to a few simple buttons. On the left edge is a back key, floating roughly a third of the way up the screen, while a plus button on the opposite side pulls open a favorites menu as well as the address bar, search and history.

There are other more fundamental changes that go against the grain of existing browsers, such as ditching the use of webpage previews as shortcuts and replacing them with more easily-recognized site logos. “This is by far the fastest way to recognize [site shortcuts],” Mozilla’s team claims. “People put thousands of dollars into their branding, and there’s a reason for that.”

There’s no word on when Junior will be available for iPad but it’s definitely safe to say the browser is in the works or at least the beginning stages of development. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of this browser.
