Federal Trade Commission Set To Fine Google Millions Over Safari Breach

Last month there were reports that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was investigating claims that Google was bypassing Safari privacy settings. Google was caught using a loophole in Safari to allow them to track users online activities without their consent…

If this is all found to be true which mot likely it will be the FTC is expected to fine Google upwards of $10 million.

Bloomberg reports:

“Google Inc. (GOOG) is negotiating with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over how big a fine it will have to pay for its breach of Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Safari Internet browser, a person familiar with the matter said.

The fine could amount to more than $10 million dollars, said the person, who declined to be identified because the talks are confidential. The fine would be the first by the FTC for a violation of Internet privacy as the agency steps up enforcement of consumers’ online rights. “

Google’s Safari breach was first discovered by Stanford researcher Johnathan Mayer, who published his findings on his black blog back on February 16th.
