App Store Problem Causing Updated Apps To Crash On iOS And Mac [UPDATE: It’s Fixed]

If you’ve recently updated an app and you can’t seem to get it working, there’s a good reason behind this. A recent issue with the App Store on Mac and iOS has been causing these apps to crash…

It’s been advised NOT to update any apps until this issue is resolved. Marco Arment, creator of Instapaper initially noticed the problem when he was bombarded by emails and tweets saying the users were no longer able to open the app after an update.

Last night, within minutes of Apple approving the Instapaper 4.2.3 update, I was deluged by support email and Twitter messages from customers saying that it crashed immediately on launch, even with a clean install.

It’s also noted that the issues seems to be affecting those in the United State, United Kingdom, and various others, but for some reason no one in Australia.

According to The Next Web, the issues was resolved once Artment contacted Apple in regards to the problem. Apple provided no information on the issue or a confirmation of when it will be fixed.

Here’s a list of apps so far experiencing this problem:

  • Goodreader
  • Readdle Scanner Pro

This is just a list of apps people have noticed. If you have recently downloaded an update and now the app won’t open please leave a comment below and let us know. We’ll try to keep you up to date on this issue as soon as we know more. Until the issue is resolved, it’s better to hold off on updating your apps.

Update: Apple recently responded to the issue on the developer forums.

We are aware of the issue related to apps crashing after update. We are currently working on resolving the issue. Stay tuned for updates.

At least they have acknowledged the issue. Now we wait.

Update 2: According to a statement made to AllThingsD from Apple, the issue has been resolved.

We had a temporary issue that began yesterday with a server that generated DRM code for some apps being downloaded. The issue has been rectified and we don’t expect it to occur again

So there ya go, a happy ending.
